Fort Zachary Taylor
On Florida's southernmost shore, transport yourself back in time to the days of cannons and warships where brave soldiers bravely battled in the Civil and Spanish-American Wars. Fort Taylor, one of a series of strategic defensive structures constructed in the mid-1800s, still stands today as sentinel over one of Key West's favorite beaches at the southern end of this Florida State Park. Relax on the beautiful beach or swim and snorkel in the gentle cove. Enjoy picnics, barbeques, and fishing from the sandy shores. Stroll the nature trails, bike ride through the park and take an informative, guided tour of Fort Zachary, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973.
